It would appear that hacking doesn’t always take the “This site 0WneD by L33t Hax0rs” form, and that Wordpress sites in particular are being targetted by Spam Injection hacks.

The Akismet plug-in for Wordpress just caught 130 odd spam comments that were submitted over a relatively short period of time. That’s saved me a good bit of time in filtering the comments manually had they made it through. Having a blog is a much more pleasant experience with Akismet installed.

The upgrade was painless, as I’ve come to expect from WordPress - v2 is a great upgrade too. Running a WordPress blog and you’ve not upgraded yet - why not?

While we were sleeping, Wordpress 1.5 (”Strayhorn”) was released!

Amusingly, Wordpress uses a similar set of release names to Programmers Notepad - they’re all great Jazz names. Both PN and Wordpress have had Mingus releases, and the new release is Strayhorn. In Matt’s own words:

My blog has been up here for approximately 8 hours, and already the first attempt at spam from a blackjack site. Unbelievable.
[update] Ironic, of course that moments later the same spamidiot (whether bot or human) attempted to post spam to this entry too!
