If you want it lighter, you could imitate other (similar) sites by using a screenshot of some syntax-highlighted code that's been faded a bit... If you want a quick and easy way to have the text real text, use a table with that picture as the background. You could also use an img tag for the header, and then you'd be able to specify alternate text: <img src="wp-content/themes/pn/images/pnheader.jpg" alt="Programmer's Notepad"> Google looks at ALT text.
